Firearms Cleaning – Doing It Right
You can use and enjoy well-maintained firearms for a lifetime. Proper cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance are key in making your firearms last a lifetime. Our gunsmith will disassemble and thoroughly clean your firearm using ultrasonic technology, which will get your firearm cleaner than is possible with manual methods. Following the cleaning, we will reassemble, properly lubricate, completely inspect, and perform all function checks each firearm.
All shooters need basic maintenance skills. Those skills include a level of familiarity with their firearm enough to at least do a basic field strip and remove surface grime and fouling. However, leave further disassembly to a professional gunsmith as it cautions in your owner’s manual.
When, how, and the techniques used do the cleaning have been the subject of many discussions, arguments, articles, and books. There are two extremes of thought on the issue:
- don’t worry about a dirty firearm, just squirt a little oil on the gun
- you must do a complete tear down after each range trip and spend a couple of hours scrubbing each gun.
While basic gun cleaning is a fairly simple chore, thorough cleaning requires the right process and equipment. Improper tools and solutions can make the job harder and even cause damage to your valuable firearm. When you have a properly ultrasonically cleaned, lubricated, and inspected firearm – handgun, rifle, or shotgun – you can be far more confident that it will function properly. Moreover, a well-maintained firearm will be more accurate and reliable. Really, isn’t that what it’s all about?
The more firearms you have cleaned, the less it costs you. Have your handguns, rifles, and shotguns cleaned at the following price schedule:

Both reliability and accuracy are greatly influenced by proper cleaning, lubrication, and maintenance. Correctly maintained firearms can be serviceable for generations. A dirty firearm is the cause of possibly 90% of mechanical malfunctions. It is important to remember that guns are a machine. Appropriate cleaning and lubrication along with preventative maintenance are crucial in making your firearms last a lifetime.
Why Fouling Matters
Fouling can and often does affect reliability, however. Uncleaned guns are more apt to jam when you most need them. Because the crud can slow down the slide, dirty semi-automatic firearms are prone to failures to feed or failures to completely eject the spent cases. Uncleaned revolvers are prone to binding up, and the double-action trigger can become difficult or impossible to pull if the cylinder isn’t turning easily. Poorly cleaned or uncleaned firearms are thus far less reliable than their well-cleaned and properly lubricated counterparts.
Improper Cleaning
Many gun owners have damaged their prized firearm by improper and overzealous cleaning techniques. Poor technique can damage the barrel and other parts of the firearm as well as greatly impact its accuracy and reliability. In addition, improper lubrication causes damage and function issues. Too little lubrication causes excessive wear and too much can cause a buildup of gummy residue on internal parts causing malfunctions.
Being Ready In Any Weather
One of our customers recently returned from a two-day tactical pistol training course in the pouring rain and red clay of western Tennessee. He returned with three pistols covered in red clay inside and out. One of the guns was so packed full of mud and clay, it would no longer function. We stripped them down, removed the top layer of grime, and then put them through the ultrasonic cleaning process. The results were remarkable. The guns were factory new clean and functioned perfectly with no gunsmith repair required. A dirty gun is the cause of possibly 90% of mechanical function problems.
